Hi,
I do not really know where to post this question, but I need your help !!
My daughter (9 years old) would like to have young cavies. I went to pet shops, but I was not happy with the way they kept the cavies (in one shop they were with big rabbits, in another, they were next to parrots which screamed all the time...). I do not want to encourage these practices.
So I would like to get them from a breeder or an individual. The problem is, I don't know anything about cavies, apart from what I have read on the internet. Is it a good idea to go to a cavy show, to see them, and get in touch with people who breed them ? Are there some young cavies to sell during these shows ?
I have heard about a cavy show in Dorking on the 18th of November, but I cannot find the info on the web. Do you know if it is on, and where ?
Thanks to everybody who will help !! |

Hi Pomette,
I also agree that you are far more likely to get a happy healthy cavy from a breeder and at shows. Also at shows you can see all kinds of different breeds so you can choose which one you like the best and get info and advice from breeders. I don't know where you are situated, but I will give you the site address of a group of breeders who might be able to help if you live close enough to any of them. Hope this helps.

Thanks a lot for your answers !
I have the details of 2 other cavy shows on the 19th, one near Brighton (the Mid-Sussex cavy club show), and one in Reading.
It is a bit farer than Dorking, but if I can't find the one in Dorking, I will go to one of these.
I live in Morden, Surrey (just south of Wimbledon). If you have any breeder in my area to recommand to me, it would be great ! |

I am originally from Lancing, the next town to Brighton. I will have to try and get to a show down there soon!
Have you heard of BJ Stud, I think she is in Bognar Regis?? They do mainly long haired breeds. I keep them and don't find them too much to look after. Here is their website address.

There is a show at Dorking on Saturday 25th November, which I might be attending. Guinea pig shows are a great place to go to see lots of different varieties and breeds of piggy. If there is then a particular breed you are interested in you can speak to the breeder themself and see if they have any babies or litters due The only details I have of the show is that it is held in Newdigate Village Hall, Newdigate, which is off the A24 at Beare Green, near Dorking. Hope thats of some help to you _________________
