I use pine shavings as bedding, although I have switched before to just hay, megazorb, to shredded paper, to chopped cleaned straw like russel rabbit, and to a mixed bale of shavings and chopped straw. I always went back to the pine.

I like the shavings best because it is the most absorbant bedding for the cheapest price per volume as well as coming in a compact bale that lasts ages. It also makes fewer bags of rubbish to try to squeeze into the family's bin at the end of the week! Laughing

Hay was lovely for the pigs, but its a shame to waste good hay at £5 a bale on bedding, and when I had trouble getting hold of good hay I decided to save that for feeding only. And the bad hay was awful and no good for bedding--full of thistles and even a dead mouse! That bale went straight out.

Megazorb was good, but expensive at £5 a bag. It came in a bag that lasted two changes and was expensive for the amount you got. It was more absorbant than pine, but got flung everywhere.

Shredded paper was rubbish. It got wet in two seconds flat and I was worried about paper cuts, though luckily only I got them and the not the pigs! I was given a load free so I decided to try it, but switched back after a few days. Some pigs tried eating it too so it was a no-no.

The chopped straw---called Sundown 'Green'--- came in a big bale and was about £6. It was just like russell rabbit bedding, and was soft and fluffy and smelled clean, like disinfectant. The downside was it got wet easily, too quickly, meaning I had to clean cages days earlier than with pine. It made too big a volume of rubbish to throw away and i had to go up the dump twice a week with it.

The mixed bale of shavings--Sundown 'Red'--- and chopped straw was better, but shavings on its own is best. The shavings in Sundown Red are coarse and you get bits of wood in there too.

My favourite shavings are Snowflake but I'll use Saracen if needs be.

So that's just about everything I can think of to say about bedding! *laughs at how much she has written*

yeah i use snowflake shavings too its £6.20 a bale where i am i've ound the snwflake the best brand and best quality around where i am. i've tried megazorb and i have to use 3-4 bags of it for my bunch so works out very expensive and i don't think its as good as the shavings i go through a full bale a clean out with that too i use the good soft meadow hay for feeding but as a bedding too i just top it up everyday. the piggies seem hapoy with it all which is what matters
