and i have a white and cream aby cross sow called ice - 7 years old today !
I just wondered if anyone else has had a piggy for this long or longer !? i know satins are shorter in life span but its normaly the pets that out live the purebreeds ? well in my shed any way ?

I think the oldest I have had to date was about 6 years ish. He was my beloved Aztec, my first lilac/cream/white Coronet boar!
You so kindly did a drawing of him for me Jenny ....
I wonder if the bitza's live longer because they have a much bigger gene pool, unlike the purebreds! Maybe the same as heinz 57 dogs and purebreds? _________________ Coronet, Sheltie, Merino, Lunkarya & Tortoiseshell Guineapigs!

My oldest piggy was Fluffy, a rescue tri aby-cross. She was arthritic, and blind with cataracts when she finally passed at the age of 6 years 8 months. Most of my pigs have gone around the age of 3 or 4, and I have several over 5 still up and running! Precious is 6 years old.
Pets and mixes will tend to be hardier and live longer, as pigs with a narrow gene pool (many pure breds are related or inbred a little) will tend to show up faults more often and more severely. Short-nosed pigs--those lovely pug nosed show types-- tend to get chest infections and breathing trouble, and teddies tend to be prone to dry skin and fungal probs. |

I thought i sould mention my piggy called Chip !
he was the second oldest in my shed! and i thought he would make it to his birthday but April was just too far away for him!
he is wonderful in every way and loved his cucumber loads !
he was a cream and chocolate Agouti ! with lilac under colour ?
and a big white strip up his nose !
he reasontly had a litter with my cherry and i sold them on this site ?
but unfortunatly at the ripe old age of 6 years and 9 months he has left me ?
he was one of the first piggys i got when i moved into my house in 1999 !
i will truely miss him ?
so loads of love Chip ! and may you rest in peace !
(this picture was taken 6 months ago ?)
