Yup I saw a picture of one a while back, from Australia, the ridge stood up way higher than a short ridgy, and they called the pig a 'Fantail' and were trying to get it recodnised as a breed. Seems to me to just be one of those funny genetic things, but who knows in the future it may become a real showing breed! In the 70s they didn't have satins, or merinos and alpacas! |

WOW! Thats amazing, a long haired ridge back I'd never even thought of one until you mentioned it kalushascavies. I love the name Fantails that the Australians have given it _________________

I had a pet litter that had a peru x mother and a ridgeback father, and they came out semi-longhaired with ridges. It was quite interesting and they looked lovely _________________ Visit My Site - www.giveapigahug.piczo.com |

Hi There,
New Zealand has a breed called the the New Zealand Plume, we have shebas in Australia, but they are more a longhaired Abby. Shorthaired ridgebacks are working on a standard at the moment. A peruvian with severe gutters could look like a longhaired ridgey

hmmm. don't tell the standards review panel hear that. the Sheba has to have at least 8 rossettes, placement like an abby. to give the coat lift. the coat isn't wrapped and grows at a slower rate than longs. ( sticking my neck on the chopping block here ) or because it isn't wrapped, naturally the ends will wear off,
The sheba was stripped of it's standard last year and has been demotted back to a working title. in my opinion, for the betterment of the breed. most serious breeders here in Australia hate them,
I keep a few, to help with the improvement of the breed and support to the more enthusiastic breeders of them.
they get 10/10 for personality. not nippy at all, ( unlike some peruvians ) and have cuteness factor like no other cavy.
