It still makes me cry when I think of my old pal, Scara. He was a rescue who had been played with by a dog, we took him to the vets straight away when we got him, the vet didn't hold out much hope. He was more holes than pig, thankfully though none had punctured any vital organs.
He was named Scara because of the holes plus it's the name of a character from Stargate SG1, my favourite TV programme.
Well after several trips to the vets and seemingly endless doses of antibiotics and soothing baths in salted water. He made a full recovery, well almost. He was a bit wobbly on one of his back legs and every so often one or two of the old wounds would erupt again.
On the positive side though he was a very loving pig, gave wonderful kisses and loved nothing better than a cuddle while I watched TV. He was a tri coloured short haired little chap, unfortunately we didn't have a camera back then so no pictures of him.
He lived for a further 5 years from the day we rescued him and passed away in my arms earlier this year.
R.I.P. my brave little soldier, you are still my inspiration. If it hadn't been for you how many pigs wouldn't have been rescued.
