At the Moment I have about 180. about 130 sows and bubs, most sows have the run of the yard, 1/4 acre block. I have a wonderful jack russel dog that keeps cats out of the yard, she doesn't bother the pigs at all, she knows her job, when I first got the dog, she was placed in with Chopper (who was bigger than her) and bonded with the cavies.
The whole area is shaded by a huge fruit tree, which the pigs devour any fallen leaves, I had to pen off the base of the tree, because they started ringbarking it. just like beavers
haven't had to mow the back area in years, they pounce on area grass that dares to show itself above ground level, I tell you they are *furry sharks*

Lilac we have red kites everywhere! They were introduced as a protected breeding program in the 90s and now there are loads round in the Chiltern hills where I live. Ive seen some today and you can normally see them flying round every day. If your ever coming to my area, let me know and you can pop in for a cuppa, and see the kites!
The closest shave we've ever had is once I was outside sitting with the pigs in an open top run (hence me not leaving them, no lid) and a blob of colour caught my eye--a red kite was hovering above us having a look at the pigs hopping about! It was about the height of my upstairs windows, and I could see its beady little eye!! |

Wow pingley, seeing them every day must be great. We have Buzzards, Marsh and Montigues Harriers, the odd Hobby and Merlin here. And Sparrow Hawks and Lots of Kestrals. Wow, it was a close shave with the Kite and your piggies in the run . What a site to have one in your garden though. Here it would be Cats and Foxes that are most likely to take a piggy from the Run.
Thank you very much for the offer of a cuppa, I would love to take you up on the offer if we are in your area. _________________ Coronet, Sheltie, Merino, Lunkarya & Tortoiseshell Guineapigs!
