Does anyone else find it unbearably hard to deal with when a piggie dies on them?
I went out to feed my beloved animals this morning and noticed my peruivan boar, Gizmo was looking very sorry for himself. I picked him up and bought him indoors to check he was alright. Whilst I was checking him over he had some kind of a seizure. I wrapped him in a towel to keep him warm and cuddled him til he stopped. Two minutes later he had blood coming from his nose and he was struggling to breath. Then he just coughed and stopped. It took some minutes for me to bring myself to admit he was gone, and I just sat there feeling like my heart had been ripped out.
This has to be the hardest part of owning pigs... I would have given anything to have got up half an hour earlier this morning and been able to get him to a vets in time.
He was a very special pet to me as well as being a first rate stud. He was the most popular and the most friendly of all my piggies and will be very very much missed.

Oh Emma I'm so sorry. It never does get easier to lose a pig and over the years I've lost a fair few. Every time it happens you feel useless and so sad, and guilty too, because it always seems like we could have done more after its happenned.
Believe me though, there wasn't anything you or a vet could have done. He had something seriously wrong for him to go in such a way, and how horrible for you to have to see. He passed at home, with you to comfort him, instead of some strange vets office after being pulled about, and at least that is something.
You obviously loved him, and that will have meant a lot to him, because even these little animals do know when they are loved, I'm sure of it.
Take care, and try not to beat yourself up over it.

Hi Emma,
I am so so sorry for your loss, its sad enough to find them dead let alone die in your arms specially the way he did - I got up one morning and found one of my rabbits poorly carried him to the vets and he fitted on the way and died in my arms before I got to the vets, its so so sad, but at least he had you to comfort him, bless him - I agree its very sad sometimes owning these little creatures, but time does heal and you have to remeber all the happy occasions you have withyour piggies, which should be more than sad ones!! Take care
Sally

I am so sorry to hear of your loss, especially in the way it happened . The main thing for him was that you were with him at the end. I think you did all you could for him!
