Hi,

Can anyone give me any first hand advice with regards to the above My 21 month old daugter has had three of these since the new year!! Her temperature goes up so quickly you do not get a chance to give her calpol so it works in time she had one at new year , the second at kent coast show at the weekend and the other last night her temperture goes to 104 then she fits!!

I have re-search this as much as possible, there is no explanation why her temperture rises I have brought the temperature thing that goes into the ear to check and am giving her calpol every 4 hours together with nuforen every 6 hours !! I sponged her down last night to try to get it down!!
It is so frightenening and worrying!! Any advice would be great!! As i am going away at the weekend to some where hot and am worried silly, that it will happen there , apart from leaving here in the swimming pool all day! Sad Sad Question

HI Debbie, I have had first hand experience of this as my daughter, Jessica suffered from fibrile convulsions at a similar age and also fitted.

It is very, very frightening. I had to take her to the A & E where she was stripped off to her under wear, given Calpol and Ibuprofen and a fan was placed right near her to bring her temperature down. Her temperature was constantly monitored and she remained in hospital for 3 days.

My advise to you is don't leave it and try to do this yourself. Take her to the A & E and let them help you deal with this. They will also give you some advise as to how to handle this in the future.

Good luck
Lindsey

My eldest also suffered from this. As stated, get to A&E, you know once you get calpol in the temp will go down, but if it went the other weay you are in the right place. Just beware of bringin any nasties home from our dreadful NHS hospitals (bring back the matrons!) and bathe child well on getting home with something antiseptic/antibacterial in the water.

If its any help, they do grow out of it.
