I am not doing very well at the moment. What with my sow Bubble with the mastitis, I think some of my pigs have caught the cold that Tom had and now I think I have it too. Some of them are sneezing, so I am keeping an eye on them. I have put vick on their noses, given them some garlic and also tried the sudafed. They seem a little bit better, but one Toblerone, seems very quiet and won't eat, so I am worried about him. I think the extra Baytril will come in handy, but I wish the vet had given me more, I did ask him, but he only gave me 3 mls!!! Also, the tiny argente baby I removed from Bubble and gave to Minstrel has hurt one of it's eyes!!! Luckily I did get some extra eye cream from the vet yesterday, good hindsight!!, so I have used that this morning and the eye looks a lot better already Sad Sad They say things come in 3's!

I am so sorry to hear that some of your piggies aren't well Sad I hope they get better very soon. If Toblerone isn't eating then you may have to start hand feeding by syringe. You can get Supreme Science recovery from your vet which is a powder that you can make up, or you could try Galens Garden which sells something similar and is really good stuff Very Happy Have you tried picking him handfuls of grass to see if he will eat that? Most piggies can't resist it and it can help get their appetite back. With the Baytril you could ask your vet for more if you are concerned that they have an infection. Can you hear a clicking sound in their breathing if you hold your ear to their sides? Increasing their level of vitamin C whilst they are unwell helps to get them back on track too, so you might like to try that. Fingers and paws crossed for you Very Happy

I did pick a big bag of grass yesterday, but Toblerone is the only one that won't eat it Sad I have given him a mixture of honey, sudafed and vit c powder tonight, but he hates me using the syringe, which also does not help.
He does not seem to be clicking, but he is sneezing and coughing and his eyes look a little watery. I think they all might get something one way or another, I heard Pip sneeze tonight and her eyes look a bit watery Sad I think I will have my work cut out over the next few days. I used to know the lady that ran Galens Garden, can't remember her name, do you know her e-mail address?

I have been to a new vet today, who was much cheaper and was very helpful. She have me 20 mls of baytril and also told me that she did not think the cold that Toblerone has and the others is the same cold that Tom and I have had. She did not think that guinea pigs can catch our colds! The only other thing would be I had some pigs boarding about a week ago and one was a bit snuffly. I did keep them away from mine, but the vet has told me it was probably that!!! Not too good, I thought the pig was just a bit old. I shall be more careful next time about the pigs that I board. I have got some special mix to feed Toblerone with all the added vits and she told me to see what happens to the other pigs, and if they get worse, to give them baytril as well Sad Oh dear, I will be busy. Pip's eyes are really watery today, so I am a bit concerned about her, but she is not coughing like Toblerone, hope she will be okay.

Hi Sue,

Sorry to hear you are having a run of bad luck as you say it does come in 3's I am just waiting for my 3rd one to come along, I am currently hand rearing 4 rex babies (mum no milk) and its not going to well and have one with upset tummy, but touch wood he is on the mend thankfully to Galens ASAP Powder.

Anyway Belinda and Galens number is 0208 3955804 she is great and I love her stuff - good luck anyway.

Sally

Thanks Sally for Belinda's number, I do remember meeting her years ago at the Epsom shows when she first started Galens Garden, she is quite near to me. Sorry to hear you have had to hand feed 4 babies, it is a difficult job, I had 6 to feed last summer, very time consuming!!

As to my pigs, Toblerone is not so good today, I really don't think he is going to make it Crying or Very sad He is not keen in the syringe feeding and it makes him cough, I think he must have a very saw throat, poor thing and he is breathing very heavily. Bubble's mastitis is all okay now and the baby with the bad eye looks a lot better, and Stevie seems to have stopped sneezing and looks okay. But my show sow Pip does look a bit fed up, she is eating but just sitting around and her eyes look all runny. I have given her some sudafed and some of the baytril, so hope she will be okay. If she keeps eating I will be happy, it takes a lot to put her off food!!!!

Thanks
Sue

Hi Sue,

No probs, hope she can help you I love her stuff and she is so helpful, I hope all your pigges get well soon, as you say if they are eating thier is a chance its when they give up that you start to worry.

Yes this hand rearing is so so time consuming, I dont mind if they make it but I am not sure if they will its so disheartining.

Keep me posted.

I am afraid I found Toblerone dead this morning, a great shame, Tom is a bit upset, but we did our best for him. I was not really surprised as he did not look that great last night. Crying or Very sad

As to the others Pip is looking a bit better, but her eyes are a bit watery still, the baby argente with the bad eye is looking a lot better and Bubble's mastitis seems to be gone, so that is good news Smile Lets hope that none of the others get this horrible cold, though I did hear Piccalilli sneezing yesterday, but she seems okay this morning, cross fingers!!
