Hi
I just wondered if anyone else offers new babies extra milk the way I do?
I always cook up some porridge oats and baby milk, leave it till it is luke warm then put it in a little egg cup with a wide base for nursing sows and their babies. That way, if the litter is big and Mum is stressing to get to everyone, the babies have a second option to fill up.
All mine seem to go for this very well. Not all the mums are bothered but the babies have a munch and slurp of it. |

Yes I have done this in the past, especially if there is a big litter. I mix up some baby rice or baby porridge with SMA baby milk. I make sure it is quite thick, otherwise the babies can get it up their nose and suffocate and also make it warm. I usually put it in a small bowl so the babies and suck around the edge and not dive in it, as some often do! Later on I replace it with warm bread and milk. Seems to work. _________________

I'm glad its not just me then lol
I have heard the top of a lemon juicer is quite good becasue you can put the milk etc round the edge and the babies cant push it over or get into it but my little egg cups work well because they are for toddlers and so the rim is really wide and i can put it around the edge there too, plus they cant push them over either hehe
I had a rescue piggie who loved porridge made with condensed or evapourated milk and water, I loved the smell of that I must admit. |
