The highway code is proposing to amend the code about horses BHS has been ignored
They propose to Forbid riding two horses abreast on narrow or busy roads and around bends. It will also exclude horses from all cycle tracks.
there is many valid reasons for riding two abreast: group riders, nervous horses, novice riders and defensive riding on winding lanes where insufficent room for cars to pass a single horse.
Breaches of the Highway code could be used as evidence in court to liability in an accident.
I know alot of cycle tracks which have been specifically designed for use by horseriders and the loss of these would be bad for those who rely on them. http://petitions.pm.gov.uk/Horseriding/ you can sign a petition on it. The deadline is 13th August

I have added my name to the petition. I do think that it is very unfair to exclude horse riders from riding 2 abreast, especially when cyclists do it all the time!!!!! If we cannot ride on cycle tracks, then cyclists should not be riding on bridleways!!! _________________

| Thanks. too true, the thing is alot of bridle paths were adapted to take cycles and resurfaced because if it and some paths were nearly lost then, i'm lucky here in Devon but in sussex it was a different story and had to fight to keep old path that were used by riders. it seems just another way to squeeze riders out. |
